Mini-Grants

FY 2009 Mini-Grant Awards

The Alaska Food Coalition has awarded 11 grants to the following agencies throughout the state working to end hunger in Alaska. These grants are intended to help food and nutrition programs build on their ability to distribute food by granting equipment purchases or staff training.

Funds may be used to purchase small freezers or refrigerators to store food for distribution, purchase or repair basic equipment/kitchen appliances or train staff and volunteers in safe food handling techniques. These annual awards are made in amounts up to $1,000. “We applaud these agencies for their hard work to help feed hungry Alaskans,” said Alaska Food Coalition president Andrea Thistle. “These funds will help them attain their goals and serve their clients better.”

The Alaska Food Coalition is a statewide group of over 60 nonprofit and faith-based agencies working everyday to help feed hungry Alaskan in communities such as Fairbanks, Anchorage, Kenai, Soldotna, Nome, Dillingham, Bethel, Juneau, Kodiak and many more. The purpose of the Alaska Food Coalition is to strengthen and coordinate public and private food and nutrition assistance programs, advocate for hungry Alaskans, and to educate policy makers about Alaskan food needs.
